What’s New: Task Sort, Progress Chart, Shift Dates, Goal Colors, and more
It’s been more than two months since our last major batch of updates. Today we are excited to announce a list of new features that have been added to GoalsOnTrack recently. These features are among the most requested and also what we believe will add most value to your daily use of GoalsOnTrack. So please do try them out and let us know what you think!
Now you can sort your tasks from the main Tasks page. There is a new Sort button at the top right corner of each tasks section header. Just next to the New Task button. By default the tasks will be ordered by due date. You can sort now in alphabetical order, or your own order. To sort in your own order, just click Reorder from the Sort By context menu popup.
Sometimes we want to know how much we have worked on a goal at a quick glance. Now the progress or activity chart can show you just that. On both goal details page and the goal widgets on dashboard page, now you will see a small chart of your recent activities over the last 20/30 days. Please note that if a goal is a parent goal, it also shows the activities from all its sub goals. It’s currently only shows the number of completed tasks. If you think we should make it show total outcome or any other stats, please let us know.
Auto-Shift Goal Dates
It’s long been requested by some users that when you change a goal’s date, you want its tasks or subgoals dates automatically shift to the new dates without manual editing them. Now you can do that from the goal details page. Click Shift Date button and then select which date (Start or End) you want to change the goal date. Then you can further check if you want to shift just task due dates or subgoal start/end dates, or both. The program will automatically shift these dates by the same number of days shifted in your goal.
This is another feature that’s long been requested. Now you can assign colours to your tasks for Calendar page. Just edit the goal’s new color field and all its tasks will be displayed in that color on Calendar page. We’ve experimented showing tasks in colors on Tasks page but didn’t feel they visually enhance the UI. Let me know if you have any ideas or feedback on where we should use goal colors other than on Calendar page.
iOS app: Action Plans
In the iOS app, we have added a new Action Plan section to goal details screen. It will now show a list of tasks you have scheduled or completed for the goal. You can quickly edit them just as you would on main Tasks screen.
iOS app: Habit Strength Indicators
To make iOS version more consistently with the web version, we have added a habit strength indicator feature to the Habits screen. It now shows your predicted habit strength based on the number of checks you have marked on your habit. This basically works similarly to the web version. We are thinking of more UI improvements to the Habits screen. If you have any ideas or feature suggestions, please do let us know.
Most of these features have been implemented with the hope for the minimum impact on existing functionality. So it’s perfectly fine if you don’t want to use them and keep working with what you are already familiar with.
We keep a list of ongoing improvements and feature requests from all users. And we try to support and implement as much as possible what you want to see in the product. So please don’t hesitate to let us know your feedback and feature suggestions. It will not only help you, but also other users as well.
It’s been a strange and difficult time. We can’t change much beyond our control. So let’s stay calm, remain productive, and keep our goals on track!
