Updates and improvements: complete task note, progress stats & more

It has been a while since our last major upgrade with new vision board features. We have been working on a few relatively small fixes here and there during this time. Here are some recent changes that you may have seen in the program.

1. Goal progress stats: Now the goal progress bar shows the actual statistics of your task completion progress made on goal, either the numbers of tasks completed or the actual metrics units vs. the total.

2. Complete task note: Now you are able to enter a quick note when completing a task. This may be useful for writing down things related to the task, such as the outcome of the task, reference information, etc. These notes are visible immediately in the completed tasks section, and also from the Tasks page.

3. Fixed a bug in completing tasks while a specific goal category is selected on Dashboard page.

4. Fixed a bug in setting goal category as parent goal when converted to sub goal.

5. More date view ranges on Tasks page: now you will see more options such as Tomorrow, Next Week for active tasks, and Yesterday, Last Week for completed tasks.

6. Fixed a bug in misalignment of timezone difference between tasks from GOT and those synced with Google Calendar or iCal feeds.

7. Fixed a bug in adding journal entries that have unusual character sequence that conflicts with encryption algorithm.

We’ll keep improving and adding new features to the program. If you ever find any problems or bugs, or have any suggestions or feature requests, please do let us know. Thanks for your continuous support.

Upcoming Mobile Web App for GoalsOnTrack

We have been working on a new mobile version of the GoalsOnTrack web app for the past few months. We are very close to the beta launch. This version is going to work on all major smart phone platforms, including iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phones devices. Here is a sneak peak of how the mobile app will look like.

The mobile version will be sharing the same data set from your main GoalsOnTrack web app account. Therefore any changes you make in one version will immediately be visible in the other version. The benefit is that you will no longer need to do any data syncing like you do with the current iPhone native app.

We currently have two main modules Goals and Tasks ready for beta testing. We are still working on the habits and journal modules right now. If you’re interested in testing out the current development version, please let us know via the contact us form on the home page. (Make sure you mention what kind of phone you are using.)

GoalsOnTrack iPhone App version 1.0.6

We have just released a new update to the GoalsOnTrack iPhone app which is now available for download on the App Store.

In this version 1.0.6, we have added a new feature to allow you to do a full re-sync if your iPhone app data is out of sync with your web version for any reason. Now you don’t have to remove and re-install the app to do a resync. Simply go to the “Settings” view, and tap “Reset Sync” link. You will be prompted for confirmation. Once confirmed, your app will reset the sync data and exist. Open the app and login again with your account password. Then go to the “Settings” view and tap “Sync Now” link.

A couple of more fixes around data syncing code have also been added. We are also working on an HTML5 based mobile version which is optimized for Android phones, but will work for all latest smart phones. Please stay tuned for updates on the upcoming mobile app launch.

As always, feel free to let us know if you have any feedback about our software or web site. Thanks and have a great weekend!

New Feature: Task Start and End Times

We are excited to announce that a long expected feature to allow assigning start and end times to tasks has been officially launched.

From now on, you can assign an exact start time and end time for a task due on a particular day. When you create tasks on Tasks page, look for the “Set Time” link on the form. It will toggle the start and end times fields to be shown. By default, you may still only assign an estimated completion time without setting the start or end times.

Another much easier option to set times is to do it on Calendar page. Because now on Week or Day views on Calendar page, you can simply drag and drop a task to assign their start time, and drag the small handle at the bottom of the task box to set its length.

What’s more, you shall also see the start times on Dashboard page. If you sync your goals and tasks to Outlook or Google calendar, you may also see the start times on these external calendars.

We hope you find this feature useful and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Thanks,

Harry

iPhone App Update - version 1.0.5

A new update has been released for GoalsOnTrack iPhone app. It has a few fixes for syncing data between iPhone app and web app. If you are having problems with syncing data, you may want to try this new update.

If you need to reset your entire account data, please make sure you delete your old version first before downloading the new version. Also send us a message with your login username so that we could reset your sync key.

The new update can be downloaded at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goalsontrack/id494953613

Recent updates: life balance chart, iphone app, etc.

Just a quick note to let you know that we have made a small change to the Life Balance Wheel reports page, where now it only shows charts for categories that are not empty. If a category is empty, then it will not be visible on the chart.

Also there is a new update to the iPhone app (version 1.0.4) now availabe on App Store. This update fixed a few more bugs related to data syncing and displaying tasks. If you haven’t upgraded, please make sure to remove your current app before installing the new one, and then do a manual sync from the “Settings” view. Your data is always saved on server so removing the iPhone app will not lose your data.

If you find syncing still not working for you, please let us know so that we can reset your sync key after you install the updated app.

Update for GoalsOnTrack iPhone App

Just to let you know that there is an update just released to the App Store for the GoalsOnTrack iPhone app.

If you are an existing user and would like to use iPhone app, please make sure you uninstall your existing GoalsOnTrack app (version 1.0) first, and then go to the App Store and download the most recent version. If you have any unsynced changes on your iPhone, simply tap the Settings icon and then tap “Sync Now” button to upload all changes to server.

In this update, we have fixed a bug that might have prevented certain users from syncing with their account data created before the iPhone app launch. Also we’ve redirected a few sync parameters so that it will use the new server we just recently upgrated to.

One thing about the iPhone app that some of you might be a bit confused about, is the fact that the time tracking should be done either on the iPhone app, or on the web app version, but NOT at the same time on both versions. If a task is tracked with its timer running, it only tracks on one end, not on both. However, the final total time will still be synced when you complete the task.

As always, if you find any problems in the iPhone app or have any suggestions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Recent Updates and Improvements

We finished migrating to a new location for GoalsOnTrack app service last week. You may have seen a significant boost in site speed and overall performance on the main app. We will continue monitoring the site and make necessary changes to maintain and improve on the service quality.

The new login URL is now at http://app.goalsontrack.com/login. You can continue using the old login link as it just redirects to this new location.

Our ultimate goal is to increase the app response speed in all main function points to be less than 1 second. If you are still experiencing slow access speed when using the software, please do let us know, as it might be an account related issue.

The response to the newly launched iPhone app has been overwhelmingly positive. However, we have found that the data syncing feature for some users doesn’t work very well. We have already identified the problem and has submitted a new updated version with this fix. We’re still waiting for Apple to approve the new update before it can be published in the App Store. I will post updates as soon as we get anything back from Apple.

There have been a few small fixes on Tasks page and Reports page where you may or may not notice. Also I’d like to thank everyone who has reported bugs or problems to us. Your feedback is very important and we much appreciate it.

Scheduled maintenance and upgrades

We will be performing server maintenance and system upgrades on main GoalsOnTrack service apps in a continued effort to maintain functionality and improve performance. During this maintenance, the web application may not be available for access, or you may expect to see latency in both the web app and iPhone app sync function.

We have scheduled the period to this Saturday, Jan 28th, between 8:00pm ~ 12:00pm.

How to Sync GoalsOnTrack with Google Calendar

As you probably know that we’ve launched iCalendar feeds for goals and tasks. We had a few problems in integration with Google Calendar recently, but now they’ve been resolved.

To sync with Google Calendar, simply copy and paste the webcal link to the “Add URL” prompt in Google Calendar app. Here is how to do it.

Step 1. Copy the webcal link for your goal from your “Goals” page:

Step 2. Find the “Add by URL” menu in Google Calendar:

Step 3. Paste the webcal link and click “Add Calendar” button:

Then you should be able to see your goal’s tasks in Google Calendar. Let me know if you are having any problem with this.
